Shopping & Local Gems: Malls, Markets & Historic Sites

Bensalem is often called the ‘Retail Hub’ of Lower Bucks County, but there is much more to this town than just big-box stores and asphalt. While we are home to the massive Franklin Mall (formerly Philadelphia Mills) and the convenient Marketplace at Neshaminy, we also host some of the region’s most stunning cultural landmarks.

Whether you are hunting for outlet deals, looking for the perfect gift, or want to explore the quiet beauty of the Andalusia Historic House, this guide covers the commercial and cultural heartbeat of the township

Local Gems

Andalusia Historic House - Gardens & Arboretum
Andalusia Historic House – Gardens & Arboretum

Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum

The Vibe: A National Historic Landmark and arguably the most stunning “hidden gem” in the entire township. Perched on a wooded promontory overlooking the Delaware River, this 50-acre estate was the ancestral home of the Biddle family for generations. With its massive Greek Revival mansion (the “Big House”) and spectacular formal gardens, it offers a serene, upscale experience that feels miles away from the bustle of Street Road.

Best For: History buffs, garden lovers, and anyone seeking a quiet, romantic riverfront stroll.

Know Before You Go: It is a ticketed site and typically open seasonally (April through November), so check their schedule before driving over. Small picnics are encouraged, but leave the large coolers at home.

Growden Mansion
Growden Mansion

Growden Mansion

The Vibe: If Andalusia is the “Royal Palace” of Bensalem, Growden Mansion is its revolutionary fortress. Built in the 1680s, this house has serious history—Ben Franklin often visited his friend Joseph Galloway here, and local legend claims Franklin actually performed early kite experiments on these grounds. It is currently maintained by the Historical Society and offers a tangible link to the founding of the nation.

Best For: American history enthusiasts and anyone who wants to stand on the same ground as the Founding Fathers.

Location: 5408 Neshaminy Valley Drive.

Pen Ryn Estate & Belle Voir Manor

Pen Ryn Estate

The Vibe: Tucked away on the riverfront, this 100-acre estate is usually bustling with weddings, but the grounds themselves are a breathtaking slice of Gilded Age history. The estate features 2,000 feet of Delaware River coastline and historic architecture that rivals the mansions of Newport, Rhode Island.

Best For: Scenic river views and architectural photography (Note: It is primarily a private event venue, so access to the interiors is limited to scheduled events).

Location: 1601 State Road.

Moongkoltepmunee Buddhist Temple

The Vibe: A stunning, unexpected landmark on Knights Road. The grounds are beautiful and often open for quiet walking and meditation for respectful visitors.

Best For: A peaceful walk and experiencing a unique cultural landmark right in our backyard.

Bensalem Township Country Club
Bensalem Township Country Club

Bensalem Township Country Club

The Vibe: Don’t let the “Country Club” name fool you—this is a publicly owned municipal gem that feels private. It features a classic William Gordon-designed 18-hole course that winds through mature trees and open greens. The grounds are also home to the historic Hansell Family Mansion, adding a touch of old-world class to your round of golf.

Best For: A high-quality round of golf without the private membership fees, and grabbing a post-game burger at the surprisingly good bar & grill.

Location: 2000 Brown Avenue.
